Adam Craig Frank Phillips received a term of imprisonment after pleading guilty to four offences from 2018.
Phillips faced Bunbury Magistrates Court, via video link from Casuarina Prison, for sentencing on Thursday, January 17.
Phillips admitted to breaching his protective bail conditions, common assault in circumstances of aggravation/racial aggravation, disorderly behaviour in public, and possessing cannabis.
Police prosecutor sergeant Dean Talbot told the court police approached Phillips in Busselton, on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 4.25pm.
While searching his backpack, police found 1 gram of cannabis in a clipseal bag.
Phillips then became agitated and aggressive towards the officers, yelling: “F**k you, I’ve done nothing wrong”.
While walking away, he yelled: “You’re on borrowed time, so watch yourself”.
At 5.30pm on October 5, Phillips was in a residence on Bussell Highway, Busselton.
He slapped his victim, a 66-year-old man, on the back before being told to stop.
Phillips then punched the victim in the mouth and temple.
He then entered into bail conditions in Busselton Magistrates Court.
On October 19, he breached his bail conditions by returning to the Bussell Hwy premises.
A Community Corrections Office representative told the court Phillips had been released from prison in June 2018.
Phillips’s lawyer, Viv Blurton, said his client’s criminal record featured “numerous violent offences over a significant period”.
Mr Blurton said Phillips had relapsed into drug use following the breakdown of his marriage.
The defence said Phillips was remorseful and had pleaded guilty at an early opportunity.
Magistrate Belinda Coleman discussed Phillips’s history of violence and anger issues.
She described his actions as “completely unacceptable”.
Phillips received a 14-month jail term, backdated to October 19, and was made eligible for parole.
He was also fined $1050 and ordered to pay court costs.
