Bunbury defeats Busselton and Peel in 2019 Men's Tri-series Tournament

Bunbury Water Polo defeated Busselton and Peel in the 2019 Men’s Tri-series Tournament on the weekend.

At the South West Sports Centre on Sunday, February 3, Bunbury locked horns with Busselton in the first match of the competition.

Busselton led by one goal at quarter time, before Bunbury piled on four to two in the second term.

Bunbury’s Jarrod English picked up five goals in the team’s 12 to 7 victory over Busselton.

The home side then earned a resounding 10 to 4 win over Peel in game two.

English and Jayden Horne slotted three goals each.

In the final match of the day, Peel fought off a comeback from Busselton to claim an 8 to 7 victory.

Bunbury Water Polo men’s coach Steve Deschamp said his players worked well together and were effective under pressure.

“This is the first time we’ve played together as a team this year,” he said.

“It’s all about getting them in the right positions and getting them used to one another.

“We’ll then go forward over the next three weeks, prior to the Country Championships.”

Bunbury Water Polo president Alice Luscombe said the event brought teams together from all over Western Australia.

“It gives our juniors an opportunity to play in a more structured competition,” she said.

“The senior players get to teach them some more game tactics.”

The Juniors and Women’s tri-series tournaments will take place on Sunday, February 17.

Teams will soon head to Busselton for the 2019 WA Country Championships in March.

The top men’s and women’s players will then represent the state during the Australian Country Championships in May.
