With the Bunbury Multicultural Festival just weeks away, organisers are calling for flag bearers.
Every year the festival is launched with a march of flag bearers representing how diverse the Bunbury region is.
Bunbury Multicultural Group chairwoman Shamara Williams said the flag procession was a great way for all the different cultures to come together under the Australian flag.
“The first time we held the flag procession, the bearers felt such pride to show off where they come from and the crowd absolutely loved it. It was an amazing feeling,” she said.
Mrs Williams said people do not have to be direct descendants of another country but have a strong connection to it.
“The Bunbury Multicultural Group seeks to promote cross cultural harmony, understanding and ultimately friendship within our community, and this is a wonderful, colourful way to open a multicultural festival,” she said.
At the moment there are only about 12 people registered to be a flag bearer and Mrs Williams hopes more come forward.
She said the march has been getting bigger every year with more countries represented.
To be a flag bearer for the Bunbury Multicultural Festival of February 23, register by joining the Bunbury Multicultural Group Facebook Page and commenting on the relevant post.
