The team behind Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront has released a draft plan to manage the effects of possible future erosion and flooding along a significant stretch of the coastline – and wants to know what you think.
Members of the community are invited to provide feedback on the draft Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan which includes Koombana Bay, Casuarina Harbour, Jetty Baths and BP Beach.
South West Development Commission acting chief executive officer Rebecca Ball encouraged members of the community to take the time to look at the draft plan and provide feedback for consideration in the finalisation of the document.
“In a dynamic, changing environment it is important we put plans in place now to safeguard assets and values that could be vulnerable to coastal processes and hazards in the future,” she said.
The document identifies areas that could be vulnerable to possible future coastal erosion and flooding in the years and decades ahead, and recommends a series of actions for managing hazards over the short, medium and long-term.
From maintaining sandy beaches and places to meet and interact, safeguarding and upgrading critical pieces of infrastructure, the draft plan outlines measures that should be taken to safeguard assets and what people most value about the coastline.
Public information provided through surveys also helped to shape the document.
