Bunbury Tennis Club player and grounds director Kevin Dingle represented the South West on the national stage last month.
Dingle travelled to Shepparton, Victoria for the 2019 National Seniors Tennis Championships, from January 7 to 18.
The teams carnival featured 87 groups, with 5 from New Zealand and two from Malaysia. Age group divisions ranged from 35 to 80+.
Western Australia sent 13 groups to the tournament.
Dingle captained the State Men’s 60-65s: Second Division team – featuring Russell Lazenby, Rob Phillips, Steven Peters, Laurence Pace, and Stuart Eales.
Playing on Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club and Mooroopna’s grass courts, the side placed second in the round robin before being knocked out in the semi-finals.
Pleased with his and the team’s performance, Dingle said he enjoyed the experience.
“I played pretty well, and it was a really good week of tennis,” he said.
“It feels good to play against people in your own age group.
“You get to meet a lot of people from other states – they’re there every year and they keep going back.
“Come and join us at the Bunbury Tennis Club, we’ve got plenty of great courts.”
Dingle is now preparing for the 2020 National Seniors Tennis Championships, scheduled for January 5 to 17.
Over 1000 players will head to Bunbury and Busselton for the teams carnival and singles competition.
The tournament will feature plenty of matches and social events, for the participants and spectators.
