The Anglican Diocese of Bunbury will be moving to a new, purpose-built facility in the near future.
The new headquarters will be placed on the corner of Oakley Street and Cross St, opposite St Boniface Anglican Cathedral.
Construction began on Monday, February 4, due for completion in early 2020.
The new building will replace the diocese’s existing premises on Oakley St.
LINCT Architecture and architect Alice Ostrowski were hands-on in developing design plans for the project.
Challis Builders contractor Jamie Challis said they were striving to develop a more modern, functional facility.
“It will be state-of-the-art, in terms of the office fit-out,” he said.
“Even though it will be the new headquarters for the Anglican Diocese of Bunbury, it will blend in really nicely with the area.
“From our point of view, we are really excited because it’s a piece of infrastructure that will be here for the next 50 to 60 years.
“I was really impressed with the design.”
Property manager Cheryl Norman said the new headquarters would fit-in comfortably with the surrounds.
“The existing offices and the meeting room are not big enough anymore for what we require,” she said.
“The building will feature some of the heritage aspects of the older houses in the area. It will have a bit of everything.”
Bishop Dr Ian Coutts said the building would be friendly, visually appealing, and inclusive.
“The new headquarters will have a much bigger meeting/conference room,” he said.
“We are also trying to do it at a very responsible cost.”
