Following a sluggish start, race favourite Fred Dag ($1.80), led by Jason Whiting, took out the $19,000 MGIB Plate on Valentine’s Day.
The bay gelding settled in sixth place shortly after leaving the barrier.
In seventh past the 800-metre mark and the final turn, Fred Dag quickly moved up the field on the home straight.
Fred Dag and Whiting crossed the line in style – finishing one-and-a-half lengths in front of second-placed Massa Mac and Vital Dancer.
Fa’lion Maschine ($6) pulled off a remarkable comeback in the 1208m Sura Handicap.
The bay mare moved up from ninth at the final turn to finish ahead of Stormy Ruler and Murray the Bulldog.
Nine 3yo+ entrants, with no metro wins from the past year, took part in the $19,000 Suncorp Handicap.
Leading from start to finish over 1208m, grey gelding De Andes ($4.40) and rider Daniel Staeck crossed a full length ahead of race favourite Diablerie.
Rider William Pike led Brett Pope-trained Hoodlum Thunder ($2) to victory in the final race of the day, the 2019m Chubb Handicap.
The favourite led for the majority of the race, before finishing two lengths clear of High Energy.
