Bunbury Triathlon Club junior competitor Hamish Melvin (13) is faster, stronger, and better than ever.
The 13-year-old will travel to Bokarina, on the Sunshine Coast, to conquer the 2019 State Schools National Triathlon on Sunday, May 5.
Keen to represent Western Australia, the triathlete said he would continue to work hard, perfect his skills, and achieve his goals.
"I am looking forward to making new friends and competing against other people in the event," he said.
"It feels good to be able to represent Bunbury Triathlon Club and my home town."
Melvin competed in three try-outs - pitting him against young triathletes from all over the state.
Needing two top-six finishes to qualify for the State Schools WA Triathlon Team, he placed fifth in race one and fourth in race two.
Determined to get the gold, Hamish currently trains five days per week.
Bunbury Triathlon Club committee member, and Hamish's mother, Carol Melvin said she was proud of her son's commitment and sportsmanship.
"I am very proud. Hamish puts in a lot of effort. He's also quite happy to cheer everyone else on," she said.
Hamish and Carol are working together to raise funds for the trip.
The club's next event will be Race 5 Wellington Dam on March 17.
