Krikke MotorSport team manager Ryan Krikke will soon set out on an adventure to raise vital funds for cancer research.
Cancer has or will touch us all during our lives; it’s an insidious disease that will always be a terrible burden to whoever contracts it
- Ryan Krikke
Last year’s Ride to Conquer Cancer saw Krikke and three other riders complete a 175-kilometre bike journey to raise awareness.
The team completed the trek in just over seven hours, raising $31,853 for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. On March 1, eight new sprintcar drivers/team owners/crew members will join the original four riders on this year's trek.
To complete the ride in under seven hours, the team must maintain a speed of approximately 27.5 kilometres per hour for the entire duration.
Krikke decided to take up the challenge after being approached by Sprintcar driver Paul Peet.
Krikke's brother, Shane, lost his battle with cancer in 2016.
The trek - commencing at South Perth Foreshore and finishing at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre - will be held in the lead up to the 2019 Krikke Boys Shootout.
“Cancer has or will touch us all during our lives; it’s an insidious disease that will always be a terrible burden to whoever contracts it,” Krikke said.
“In saying that, there is important research being done to find a cure, but the world-leading doctors, researchers, scientists and clinicians at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research are in dire need of donations to continue their vital work.
"We encourage all of you to contribute and show your support. No donation is too small or too big."
This year's Krikke Boys Shootout will hit Bunbury Speedway on Saturday, March 2.
