Hay Park secured the inaugural Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association Women's premiership title with a stunning performance on Sunday, February 24.
Bouncing back from a five-wicket loss to Marist in round five, Hay Park hit the crease filled with energy and confidence.
Following the early dismissal of Redback's opening batswoman Shakira Parsons (3), fellow opener Caitlin Maskew surprised with a solid 15 runs off 28 balls.
The formidable partnership of Fiona Florance (30 off 38) and Karen Robinson (32 off 35, including three fours and one six) caught the Blues off-guard, with both batswomen retiring not out.
Hay Park's top/middle order batswomen Katrina Jones (17 off 17), Josie Jefferis (14 off 14), and Naomi Newport (12 off 18) pushed the Redbacks towards their goal of 150+ runs.
The visitors shocked Marist by posting a respectable total of 8/153 from 30 overs.
Soon after Marist hit the crease, Maskew bowled Blues' opener Katie Ernst for four.
Thanks to the partnership of fellow opener Siobhan Darlow (16no off 54) and wicketkeeper Ally Clarke-Dehring (18 off 27), the home side got back on track.
Steph Bowling (2) was mercilessly dismissed by Jefferis, before Bronywn Walker was caught by Florance for 21.
Late in the day, Marist's hopes rested on the shoulders of tail order batswomen Sara Naylor (top scoring with 30 off 27, including two fours) and Jessica Barton (21no off 31).
The Blues needed just a handful of runs in the final over to claim the title.
It was not to be, with Marist finishing on 5/151 after 30 overs.
The upset win delighted Hay Park's players and fans.
Florance was the proud recipient of the 2018/19 BDCAW Grand Final's most valuable player award.
