People from all walks of life took part in the 37th Barrett Bunbury Swim Thru, presented by the City of Bunbury Surf Lifesaving Club (inc.) Old Boys Club.
On Saturday, March 2 at the Leschenault Inlet, almost 100 swimmers battled it out for this year's title.
The participants conquered the 1.6-kilometre course, before crossing the finish line at the Bunbury Rowing Club.
The event featured an array of competitors, aged from 10 to 80+.
Rahul Jegatheva (in the 15-19 category) was the first male across the line in 00:19:45.90, finishing ahead of John Drinkwater (00:21:28.25) and Bob Temby (00:24:13.96).
"It feels really good to win, it was quite a nice race," Jegatheva said.
"I swam in this race about four years ago, and it feels great to be involved in it this year.
"I love swimming here, so, if I can, I'll be back next year."
Maddy Stewart was the first female across the line, finishing in 00:24:16.00.
Under 15 swimmer Arrabella Stewart (00:24:45.47) placed second, ahead of Jacinta Eckersley (00:26:26.25).
Brett Silvester was the humble recipient of the Brian Smith Challenge Trophy.
The late Mr Smith competed in the inaugural Barrett Bunbury Swim Thru in 1982. He went on to take part in the event over many years.
Jay Anderson was awarded $300 for finishing just 1.5 seconds after her nominated time.
Ron Edwards, an 80+ competitor, received $100 for crossing three minutes, 37s after his nominated time.
Barrett Bunbury Swim Thru organiser Errol Barrett said the annual event brought smiles to all those involved.
"It's a great event for bringing swimmers of all ages and abilities together," he said.
"We attract swimmers from other areas. It's also a really great, multi-organisation event.
"There are a lot of sponsors, and it couldn't happen without them.
"It's fantastic to have them on-board, to give back to the community, and to be investing in a more active community."
Organisers thanked all the participants, volunteers, and sponsors for lending a hand to this year's event.
