Governor of Western Australia Kim Beazley AC and his wife, Susie Annus, visited the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre as part of the governor’s first official regional visit to Bunbury and Greenbushes.
The pair were offered a tour of the performing arts venue and its conferencing facilities by the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre's chair Simon Jacob, City of Bunbury councillor Brendan Kelly, and Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre executive director Fiona de Garis.
“It is clear they have a keen interest in the role that arts and culture can play in building community in Western Australia, so it was a pleasure to introduce the Governor and Ms Annus to some of the facility’s current programs supporting young creative people and assisting local artists in developing sustainable careers,” Mr Jacob said.
“BREC plays an incredibly important role in developing the creativity of young people in our region and the centre offers many different ways for them to continue that engagement with the arts throughout their life.”
The governor and his wife took centre stage in the venue's premier Stage One Theatre for an afternoon tea with a recital on the centre's Steinway Concert Grand by local pianist and WA Performing Arts Eisteddfod contestant Josh Jacob.
The governor and Ms Annus met with Life Member of the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre life member Jill Lyn, centre volunteers Lynn, Nan Martella, Pat Smart, Peter Elderfield, and Kelvin Carmichael, PVI Collective co-founder Steve Bull and local performing artist and director Dr Vahri McKenzie.
The governor’s Regional Visit Program enables him to continue to develop a good working knowledge of the state, and to engage with local government representatives, volunteers, school students, and many other people within rural communities.
