South Bunbury's football and netball teams were put to the test over the weekend.
On Saturday, March 23, Tigers' women's, colts, and league football teams went up against South Mandurah at Hands Oval.
All three teams performed well under pressure and produced many highlights.
The league side fought to claim a 9.12.66 to 7.8.50 win over the Falcons.
South Bunbury Football Club league coach David Obal is confident they can compete with the other nine South West Football League teams.
"It was a reasonable effort, for our first hit-out of the year. We did some good things and we made some silly mistakes, but, for our first game, it was pretty good," he said.
"Prior to round one, we'll be working on our communication skills and we'll get to know/understand one another.
"We've got quite a few new faces this year, so there's going to be a bit of a transition period.
"We're looking at definitely playing finals football, that's our aim for 2019.
"Come along and support us, because we're going to be there at the end."
South Bunbury will head to Margaret River for their much-anticipated clash in round one.
The Tigers will host their first home game in round two, against the Collie Eagles.
At Hay Park, South Bunbury's league, reserves, and Under 18s netball teams faced off against the Falcons.
"Saturday's event gave us something to work towards, prior to the start of the season," League coach Vicki Wood said.
"We're getting some cohesion back into the club, and we're also looking to improve upon last year's results.
"We're looking to get some wins on the board this season. With this young side, I believe we're very capable of doing that."
South Bunbury's league side will begin its South West Netball Football League 2019 campaign against last year's runners-up, Bunbury Bulldogs, on March 31.
The Tigers will travel to Margaret River in round two, before taking a break in round three.
Harvey Bulls Football Club clashed with Waroona Demons over the Alcoa Cup on Sunday, March 24.
Looking to avoid the wooden spoon in 2019, Harvey's league side will take on Bunbury in round one.
Harvey and Bunbury's women's teams will play out a 2018 grand final rematch in Harvey at 3.20pm.
Returning to the SWNFL league competition, Harvey will take on Carey Park at the South West Sports Centre this Sunday.
