The Shire of Harvey has supported two recent grant applications from the Harvey Recreation Ground and Harvey Bowling Club.
At its meeting on Tuesday, March 26, council discussed both applications, received under the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund.
Council agreed to submit both applications to the Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries prior to the closing date.
The Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund was set up to help improve facilities across Western Australia.
Harvey Recreation Ground put forward an application of $27,000.
The proposal includes a review of the ground's current facilities, along with a master plan to address the future needs of the community.
Should the application become successful, the shire will allocate $9000 to the project from the 2019/2020 budget.
The Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries and Alcoa Sustainability Fund will provide $9000 each.
Harvey Bowling Club submitted an application of $46,000 for the construction of an accessible toilet.
An accessible toilet would help the club to become more inclusive and embellish greater opportunities.
Harvey Bowling Club will provide $7600, with Harvey Football Club adding another $900.
The Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries and Alcoa Sustainability Fund will contribute $15,000 each, while the shire will provide $8000.
Shire president Tania Jackson said both groups greatly benefited the Harvey community.
"I hope our projects are looked at favourably, as they are both about accessibility," she said.
"Thanks to women's football, we do have a need to develop those change rooms. Our clubs are looking at trying to deliver those, as well.
"Within the budget process, we will certainly give full consideration to these projects."
