The Beautiful Girls will bring its "ultra vibrational electric light beams" back to the South West in May.

The group will showcase its mix of dub, soul, jazz, and hip hop at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Bunbury on Thursday, May 30, before travelling to Margaret River, Fremantle, and Hillarys.

"We're about 15 years into it. You get excited when you first go out and see all of these new places. Nowadays, it's about returning, catching up with friends, and the music," multi-instrumentalist Mat McHugh said.

"We still get a buzz from going out on stage and playing music.

"It's a life-long pursuit - we're always trying to get better at it, learn more about it, and tick more boxes than we did previously."

"We love the South West. We've actually been there a few times over the years.

"Arguably, WA is one of the best spots in the world for surfing.

"You don't have to twist my arm to get me over there, that's for sure."

The shows are all part of The Beautiful Girls' latest Western Australian tour - celebrating the release of its new single, Beautiful World.

McHugh describes it as a "1980s digital dancehall" track, based around an inventive, upbeat style of reggae from Kingston, Jamaica.

Like The Beautiful Girls' many other songs, Beautiful World focuses on the positive aspects of life.

"Whenever I write new songs, the first thing I do is trash any memories/thoughts of the old songs. I try to approach the process in a new way, every time," he said.

"it's a challenge sometimes, but it keeps things interesting. I always try to go deeper with the songs and with the instrumentation.

"Each new batch of songs comes from a fresh place."
