Police and Road Safety Minister Michelle Roberts was thrilled to announce major funding initiatives for two local community organisations.
Visiting Bunbury on Thursday, May 2, the minister celebrated the $25,000 Crime Prevention Grant for Jobs South West Training Centre.
Over the next 12 months, the funds will allow for the group to run two camps, eight diversionary activities, and two family day programs for at-risk youth and their families.
The funds will help residents from across the region to take part in a variety of outdoor activities.
"We want to congratulate Jobs South West on the fantastic job they are doing in Bunbury and in the wider South West community," Mrs Roberts said.
"They provide opportunities and support for young people, so that they can fully engage with the community.
"As Police Minister, I hear about bad things that happen in the community, crimes that have occurred etc. on a daily basis.
"It's great to see young people, who could easily have been cast aside, becoming involved in group activities and learning new skills."
Mrs Roberts visited Doors Wide Open, after the State Government announced $85,000 in funding last week.
The funds will help the organisation to continue providing essential support services for those recovering from methamphetamine addiction.
The minister also met with South West Police representatives, including South West District Superintendent Mick Sutherland, to discuss issues affecting the Greater Bunbury area.
She praised Bunbury Police for their extraordinary efforts and thanked the community for providing information.
"We looked at some of the strategies the police are employing," she said.
"There's been a significant downturn in the number of burglaries and car thefts throughout the South West.
"We encourage people who have information to report it to police because they are really keen to receive that information.
"The information that they receive from the public is really valuable, and the team at Bunbury Police are working extremely well."
