Two of the region's best speed skaters are notching up impressive results across Australia and the globe.
Junior international grade competitor Liam Morrissey, 17, and senior international grade competitor Jaiden Lanigan, 22, soared to new heights in the 2019 World Skate Oceania Inline Speed Skating Championships, in Brisbane, over the Easter long weekend.
Featuring 65 participants from four countries, the competition saw Australia claim the overall championship title.
Liam kicked off his campaign by finishing fourth in the junior men's time trial.
He then placed sixth in the 1 Lap sprint, seventh in the 1000-metre sprint, eighth in the 10,000 Points event, and eighth in the 42,195-kilometre marathon.
"I was looking to make the most of my last year in the junior grade," Liam said.
"Overall, I was pretty happy with my results."
After placing seventh in the senior men's time trial, Lanigan finished fifth in the 1 Lap sprint, fourth in the 1000m sprint, fourth in the 10,000 Points event, and fourth in the 15,000m elimination.
"Speed skating is always fast, fun, and friendly," Lanigan said.
"We put in a lot of effort, get to travel the globe, and represent Australia on the world stage."
Both Liam and Lanigan picked up silver medals in their respective 5000m relays.
Fellow Bunbury speed skater Alex Myint overcame all obstacles to secure the overall junior men's title.
The World Skate Oceania Inline Speed Skating Championships will head to Timaru, New Zealand in 2020.
