Newton Moore Senior High School Girls Academy students recently travelled to Perth to explore future career pathways.
The students attended the Perth Convention Careers Expo before enjoying a tour of the Joondalup WA Police Academy.
Student Aaliyah Thomas said the expo had been an amazing life experience.
"It really opened my eyes to the different options out there, everyone was nice and supportive," she said.
During the Police Academy tour the girls got to see training facilities, the firing range, taser practice rooms and received advice from several current Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cadets, including former Newton Moore Senior High School Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer Slade Hayward.
Aaliyah Thomas and Charity Rose Ryder especially enjoyed the tour as both students have aspirations to join the cadets after finishing Year 12.
The Girls Academy is a community-led program aiming to encourage achievement, improve graduation rates, increase school attendance, and facilitate planning for future careers.
