Australind resident, and Bunbury Runners Club member, Steven Rice will soon run seven marathons, across seven states, over seven days.
The 54-year-old, along with 22 others from around Australia, will take part in this year's Bravehearts 777 Marathon, raising funds for the country's leading child protection organisation.
Mr Rice will begin his 295-kilometre journey in Perth on Monday, July 1.
After moving through Adelaide, Melbourne, Launceston, Canberra and Sydney, all 23 runners will come together during the Gold Coast Marathon on Sunday, July 7.
"I visited the Gold Coast last year for the marathon. I saw the Bravehearts crew there and I thought: 'I would like to do that'. When I think of something, I generally follow through on it," Mr Rice said.
"Between now and the event, I'll be notching up as many miles as possible.
"I could not have done this on my own. Both the Bunbury Runners Club and my partner have provided support, along the way."
Mr Rice is on track to reach his $10,000 fundraising goal. Earlier this year, two anonymous donors each put forward more than $1200.
Mr Rice said the campaign would help to provide valuable assistance to those in need.
"I'm a grandfather, and I would do anything to protect my grandchildren," he said.
"After finding out how the organisation started, I felt inspired.
"All the money raised goes to education and to the victims of abuse. That's primarily why I'm doing it.
"It's all for a really great cause."
In its sixth year, the initiative has become Bravehearts' biggest annual fundraiser.
This time around, the participants will be joined by Kayleen Johnston and her dad, Ian.
Kalyeen's parents, Ian and Hetty Johnston, founded the charity in 1997 following their daughter's personal experience with sexual assault.
The organisation adopted the white balloon as a symbol, representing all victims of child sexual assault.
White Balloon Day is held on September 6 each year.
