Masters athletes from across the state recently took part in one of Bunbury's biggest annual sporting events.
The Bunbury Water Polo Club - in association with Water Polo Western Australia - hosted the 2019 Masters Water Polo Championships, at the South West Sports Centre, on June 8 and 9.
The event saw six men's teams and four women's teams compete in several nail-biting clashes.
Up against a 35-second shot clock, the players all handled the pressure with ease.
Men's sides City Beach and Cockatoos 60+ fought to win their respective divisions.
Country Ladies secured the women's title with an 8-6 grand final win over The Pink Pointers.
Kylie English (Country Ladies), Phil Scales (Cockatoos 60+), and Ray Mayers (City Beach) were named this year's Most Valuable Players.
"It's always interesting," tournament director Dave O'Connor said.
"The event helped the players to prepare for the FINA World Masters Championships, in South Korea, later this year."
The Bunbury Water Polo Club thanked the players, coaches, and organisers for their incredible efforts during the competition.
"The tournament helps us to promote water polo in the community. It also helps the club to grow, and to reach out to other clubs across the state," Country Ladies player Tash O'Neill said.
"It's a sport that people can play for a very long time. It's also something that improves fitness and provides some fun.
"You make a lot of good friends along the way."
Six players from Bunbury - Jack Deschamp, Jayden Horne, Alix English, Heather Scott, Amy Sundercombe, and Gilly Johnson - headed to the Gold Coast for last month's Australian Country Water Polo Championships.
Facing off against Victoria in the 7/8th place play-off, WA's men's side stormed home to claim a 10-7 win.
WA's women's team went down to New South Wales, 3-7, in the bronze medal match.
