The City of Bunbury council voted to advise the Westport Taskforce it formally supports an expansion of current operations at the Bunbury Port as a solution to the State's growing freight needs last week.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said a positive recommendation from the Westport Taskforce would be a great outcome for the region.
"The Bunbury Port is an important economic driver for the region, amassing a record 16.9 million tonnes last year with plenty of room to grow," he said.
"In the short term the Bunbury Port can accommodate roll-on, roll-off car imports and processing within six months at minimal cost.
"We are in a perfect position to assist the state with its future freight requirements and the opportunities this will present Bunbury with for business, innovation and employment are exciting."
