The 2019 Landmark Country Football Championships in Mandurah on Thursday, with colts teams taking to Rushton Park for day one of their carnival.
It didn't take long for the Great Southern Storm to show they mean business as they defeated Regional Districts before overcoming the defending champion South West in a thriller.
Meanwhile Peel split its two games, while the Northern Suns also went 1-1.

Jordan Kickett had the Northern Suns off to a strong start as he booted three goals to buoy them to a win in the carnival's opening clash.
Regional Districts jumped out of the gate booting the first three goals of the match with Malachi Bolton (two goals) hitting the scoreboard, but the Suns clawed their way back and eventually edged in front.
Levi Butcher was a force for the Northerners, while Jevan Tholstrup was named Regionals' best.

Busselton forward Bailey Coshott booted a brilliant six goals as the South West cruised past Peel in a hot start for the defending champs.
The South West burst out of the gates to pile on the game's first five goals, with Peel pegging one back through prior to half time.
The Cavaliers enjoyed a purple patch at the start of the second half as they cut the margin down to 14 points, but the South West blew it out in the later stages with Kolbee Fleay in good form early.
Cody O'Donnell and Nixon Purser were among Peel's best.

The Storm announced their intentions early with a strong showing against Regionals, as Kalin Lane guided them to the victory.
The Southerners were able to impact the scoreboard early and held a strong lead at half time, but the Dogs made a charge late in the game with repeat entries into the forward line.
But some wayward kicking and a stout Storm defence kept the game out of their reach, as Great Southern took their first win.

Peel bounced back from their opening loss to the South West with forward duo Craig Milward and Ben Otto combining for four goals.
The Cavaliers' inaccuracy kept the Suns in touch in the first half, with Harley Corbett and Bryce Watson playing well for the Northerners.
But a strong second half saw Peel eventually break away, with Nixon Purser and Stirling Moody in terrific touch.

The South West suffered a shock loss at the hands of the Storm, with the Great Southern surviving a last-minute scare.
The Storm trailed by a point as the two headed into half time deadlocked before conjuring a crucial run early in the second period with captain Alex Pearce playing a key role.
The South West made a late dash for the lead with the final two goals of the match, but eventually fell short.
