Barking Gecko Theatre and Finegan Kruckemeyer's AWGIE award-winning production My Robot will hit the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre later this month.
The play will entertain theatre lovers of all ages at 11am and 4pm on Friday, July 26.
The story is all about making new friends, literally.
When Ophelia (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts - Bachelor of Performing Arts student Marlaine Haerewa) finds a box full of parts with a strange note, she assembles the objects into a robot friend.
Naming her new friend Olivetti, Ophelia soon embarks on an amazing adventure.
Steve Berrick created a large-scale working robot exclusively for the production.
An artist and creative coder with a degree in computer science, Mr Berrick was assisted by Scitech and the University of Western Australia in putting Olivetti together.
Driven by the challenge to intersect science and art, the robot is controlled off stage and is the star of the show.
Kruckemeyer has commissioned over 80 plays that have been performed in several continents, and translated into eight languages.
He has received 36 awards, and continues to be one of Australia's most successful children's playwrights.
Barking Gecko Theatre artistic director Luke Kerridge said the play was filled with wild antics, laughter, action, and suspense.
"With its visually delightful set and working robot on stage, My Robot will create curiosity and interest in science and technology for our young audiences," he said.
"On another level, My Robot reminds us that we are all made up of different parts, and that when we feel less than whole we can find - or make - a part that fits.
"It is a show that's not only great fun, but creates an opportunity to start a very important conversation with children about friendships and how each of our actions affect other people."
Tickets for both shows are available online via bunburyentertainment.com, by phone at 1300 661 272, or in person at the Box Office.
