A Launceston pair have been charged with slavery and human trafficking over a forced marriage.
Australian Federal Police allege a woman was deceived into coming to Australia and enslaved between October 5, 2018, and February 24, 2019.
A joint operation between the Australian Federal Police and Tasmania Police led to the arrest of a 43-year-old woman and 52-year-old man in the state's North on Tuesday.
Interpreters were required when the two accused appeared before a Justice of the Peace in an out-of-hours session at the Launceston Magistrates Court on Tuesday night.
An Australian Federal Police spokeswoman said victims of human trafficking offences were considered vulnerable victims in accordance with the Crimes Act 1914.
The two accused and the woman cannot be named as it is an offence to identify a victim or anyone who could identity the victim.
The two Launcestonians were bailed to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on August 13.
