National Skills Week is an initiative of SkillsOne Television. They say the reason we needed this awareness campaign centred around vocational education and training (VET) is because:
"Australia continues to experience an increase in demand for skilled labour, which requires increased workforce participation, increased skill attainment and the employment of attraction and retention strategies.
"A large part of addressing this issue is providing ample education and information about the career and training possibilities and opportunities that are available to all Australians.
"National Skills Week aims to raise the awareness of the diversity of training and career opportunities available, pathways into training and education, and the importance of trades, skills and VET to today's society."
When the 2019 theme of 'Succeed your way' was announced, Brian Wexham, CEO of SkillsOne Television said in a statement: "National Skills Week has established a trusted and innovative reputation. It plays a pivotal role in strengthening and communicating the key messages of industry and government in an environment characterised by changing skills requirements, advances in technology and a sector plagued by a history of negative publicity."
As an explanation for the choice of theme, Mr Wexham said: "The 2019 theme seeks to explore the many ways a person can navigate and individualise their pathway to achieve success in their career through vocational training".
Mr Wexham also made reference to a Labour Market Research report on employment projections and said they "state there will be an increase in 17 of the 19 broad industries over the five years in Australia. There is and will continue to be a strong demand for people with practical and industry ready skills that VET delivers."
There will be National Skills Week events held and gaining attention around the country.
In addition to the four launch events there are many seminars, workshops, shows, expos, open days, luncheons, meet-and-greets, breakfast talks, and presentations organised.
