With basketball riding a wave of popularity in Australia, NBL chief executive Jeremy Loeliger has been promoted to a new role as NBL commissioner.
Since joining the competition in 2015 Loeliger has overseen the league's resurgence including four consecutive years of record attendances and broadcast audiences.
NBL owner and executive chairman Larry Kestelman said the NBL was following the model of the NBA, where Adam Silver holds the same position
"It also reflects the NBL's significant growth and expanding global footprint as a league," Kestelman said.
"We are now one of the premier basketball leagues in the world and enjoying a golden period for Australian basketball."
Loeliger has been credited with creating the Next Stars program which will this season see the likes of LaMelo Ball and RJ Hampton join the NBL.
"His new role will allow him to focus on strategy development and continuing to build our partnerships across basketball and government, both here and internationally."
NBL chief operating officer Andy Crook will play a bigger role in running the daily operations of the competition.
