Locals and travelers have been warned of smoke in the region as the Parks and Wildlife Service conducts prescribed burns today.
The burning will occur 18km west of Collie, 13km south-east of Harvey and 2.5km north of Kirup.
Prescribed burning is the process of planning and applying fire to a predetermined area, under specific environmental conditions, to create low-fuel areas across the landscape to help stem the spread of bushfires ahead of summer.
It is the primary tool available to the department to manage fuel loads, which helps protect the community by minimising the impact of bushfires.
The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions warns motorists to take care and turn on headlights while driving through areas affected by smoke and people with conditions exacerbated by smoke to take precautions in line with their medical advice.
