A 42-year-old man has been denied bail, following an axe attack in Withers last month.
Aaron David Fraser faced Bunbury Magistrates Court on Friday, October 11, via video link from Bunbury Regional Prison.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Darren Clifton told the court Mr Fraser and two others allegedly attended an address on Hudson Road, Withers at 4.30am on Friday, September 20.
The group kicked down the front door, before gaining entry and attacking the two occupants.
The accused allegedly swung an axe into one of the victim's heads, splitting open their scalp and skull.
The victim required multiple surgeries after he was flown to hospital for emergency treatment.
Police have described the victim's recollection of events as "patchy".
Sustaining minor injuries during the ordeal, the second victim is still assisting police with their inquiries.
Mr Fraser was treated at Bunbury Regional Hospital after suffering minor injuries from the incident.
Police have recovered CCTV footage of Mr Fraser in the area, before and after the attack.
The accused's DNA was also found at the scene.
When questioned by police, he provided little to no information.
The other two alleged offenders are still at large.
The court was told Mr Fraser was charged over an incident in 2000 and another in 2006.
Defence Counsel Twistie Venning said Mr Fraser intends to plead not guilty to aggravated burglary, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, and unlawful wounding.
Applying for a bail application, Mr Venning said the accused would be willing to follow strict conditions prior to his next appearance.
The lawyer added that his client, if released on bail, would commit to attending court on time.
Addressing the circumstances of the case, Sgt. Clifton called for bail to be refused.
Describing the allegations as "extremely serious", Magistrate Steve Wilson opted to refuse bail.
Mr Fraser will return to court, via video link, for a committal mention date on Thursday, December 12.
According to Mr Wilson, the matters will likely be put through to Bunbury District Court.
