As Choose Respect continues to grow, the importance of the individual recognising what they do matters, has never been more significant.
Our volunteer committee are often asked, "what can I do", and "how can Choose Respect help me' and others say "I am already respectful, so I don't need to do anything".
But of course, if we all do nothing, we are likely to get more of the same within our society, and for most people, that is simply not acceptable.
Role modelling respect is vital if we want to see a change in our current culture.
So to help our whole community with a way to get involved, Choose Respect Day, is set to become part of our annual calendar.
During Choose Respect Day, every individual in our community will be invited and encouraged to focus on our own actions, thoughts and words, and invite each of us to carry out one act of caring or kindness beyond our normal daily activities.
The inaugural Choose Respect Day will be held on Wednesday 13th November and has been chosen to coincide with World Kindness Day. It is certainly challenging to look within ourselves and to see past our learned thought patterns.
Perhaps we don't realise that our manner may be intimidating to some, or our attempt at humour misunderstood and hurting others.
Or maybe we simply aren't taking time to think at all about how what we do has a ripple effect upon others, both positively and negatively.
So here's our chance to all pass on some care and kindness to someone close to you. Maybe a work colleague who needs to hear they are valued, or that their ever-present smile really makes a difference.
In our homes and playgrounds, even the stranger on the street, what helping hand or words of kindness could we share. Perhaps, a caring word to self is most needed. We do know, that simply sharing kindness, grows kindness. Showing respect, grows respect.
One of the earlier signs in the Choose Respect campaign included the statement "Imagine a community where everyone treats one another with respect".
We know that some days that takes a fair bit of imagination with confronting images, but maybe we can all concentrate for one day, and know what it would feel like for that to be a reality.
"Pockets of Kindness" will soon be available online on our ChooseRespectBunbury facebook page and "Cards full of Kindness" are available on request.
To register your interest, please email bunburyrespect@gmail.com. Let's all have the greatest day and SHOW SOME CARE AND SHARE SOME KINDNESS.
