The Capel Bowls Club has introduced a Western Australian first with a new game of lawn bowls to be played on hot summer nights.
Special UV lighting or black light is assembled along two bowling rinks, and lawn bowls are painted with glow paint in a variety of colours.
When most other general lighting is switched off and the UV lights are illuminated, the bowls glow in the dark - making a light show when rolled down the rink.
The club sees this new initiative to be ideal for young families, friends, and party groups.
'Glow Bowls' will run every week up until the end of March 2020. Playing time is from 7.45pm to 9pm.
The events will cater for teams of four to six people playing against teams of similar size.
Some of the cost of the infrastructure was met by a minor grant from the Shire of Capel and the Federal Government's Stronger Community Program, while Bendigo Bank provided sponsorship funds.
Enquiries and bookings can be made to Capel Bowls Club president Steve O'Brien on 0412 439 436.
