The State Government and Premier Mark McGowan have voiced their continued support for the region's public transportation sector.
Last year, the government selected Alstom as the preferred proponent to build six new railcars for the Australind train.
Visiting the Bunbury Railway Station on January 23, Mr McGowan and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti unveiled the railcar designs.
As part of the $54 million project, the two new train sets will include kiosks, buffets, storage spaces for bikes, toilets, USB connection points, and wi-fi.
Subject to final negotiations, the railcars are due for completion in 2022-2023.
"We want to make sure that regional Western Australia receives top-quality transport services," Mr McGowan said.
"The South-West will be receiving a marvellous new train. We are building two new three-car rail sets right here in Western Australia, using WA workers."
Bunbury MLA Don Punch said the new railcars would assist in drawing more people to the region.
"I would like to thank the minister and the Premier for making this a reality," he said.
"I am really excited about the plans, and I am really proud to be the Member for Bunbury."
The government also celebrated the completion of the $65,000 Cookernup Station upgrade project.
The station's existing platforms were raised to comply with Disability Discrimination Act standards.
Upgrades to the North Dandalup, Yarloop, and Carrabin stations have also been completed within the past 18 months.
Under the new Australind Action Plan, the government will deliver additional transport services for South-West commuters over the next three years.
Fare credits will be given to Australind train passengers whom experience lengthy delays.
From May 2020, a 12-month, non-stop road coach service will be trialled between Bunbury and Mandurah.
The buses will travel to and from the Mandurah Train Station every workday.
