A South-West woman who was found with cannabis, methylamphetamine, and a stolen hire car has been ordered to complete a six-month Community Based Order.
Shayla Lee Vinton faced Bunbury Magistrates Court on March 19, charged with two counts of cannabis possession, two of meth possession, and one of stealing a motor vehicle.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Darren Clifton told the court Vinton was stopped by police in Collie, just after 7pm on April 13, 2019.
Whilst conducting a search, police uncovered four clipseal bags each containing 0.1 grams of meth.
The officers also found a small amount of cannabis inside a plastic container, in her handbag.
On July 5, Vinton signed a rental agreement for a vehicle from Thrifty Car and Truck Rental Bunbury. The agreement was due to expire on July 6.
The company attempted to contact her on multiple occasions, before reporting the vehicle as stolen on July 12.
Vinton was located and arrested by police on July 16. During a search, the officers uncovered 0.3g of meth and 5g of cannabis.
Defence counsel Ntuthuko Mcingolwane told the court that his client accepted the facts and had pleaded guilty at an early opportunity.
He added that Vinton was in a position to move on and change her life/circumstances for the better.
According to Mr Mcingolwane, she also intends to get in contact with the company and pay the late fees.
The court heard that Vinton has three children and works in the hospitality industry.
Magistrate Belinda Coleman congratulated Vinton on her progress in the Pre-sentence Opportunity Program.
However, Ms Coleman also described the offences as "serious".
Along with the CBO, the magistrate also handed down fines and an order for the destruction of the drugs.
"Well done for the efforts you have made to date. Hopefully, we won't see you back here again," Ms Coleman said.
