The City of Bunbury is doing its bit to stop the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) throughout the South-West.
Taking the federal government's advice into consideration, the city moved to close numerous community and sporting facilities on Monday morning.
The South West Sports Centre, Bunbury Public Libraries, Bunbury Regional Art Gallery, Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre, Bunbury Wildlife Park, and Bunbury Visitor Centre will remain closed until further notice.
The city's administration building will remain open, with strict hygiene and social distancing measures in place.
Yesterday, the city turned off all ticketed parking meters and ceased PayStay monitoring. Community safety officers will continue to monitor time limits at each location.
Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said the city's Emergency Management Team would assist with ongoing operations over the next few months.
"We're trying, to the best of our ability, to ensure that our community remains informed about exactly what is going on," he said.
"A situation like this demonstrates the importance of having these plans in place because you never know when you will need them. When they are needed, we can enact them very quickly and we are prepared for it.
"Unfortunately, we've had to cancel a number of events and wind things back, but out of necessity. Obviously the implications will be substantial.
"My advice is that we remain calm, we listen to the advice of the state and federal governments, and that we look forward to this pandemic running its course quickly."
