Move over Las Vegas - drive-thru weddings are about to hit Busselton - offering grooms and brides-to-be a chance to get married at some of Busselton's most iconic locations.
Busselton celebrant Nikki McCarthy has jumped on board a nationwide initiative to wed couples in a fun and cost effective way during the pandemic.
Ms McCarthy said it was a brilliant idea and she was so pumped to be part of it.
"The wedding industry was hit instantly [when COVID-19 restrictions started] our inboxes were full of cancellations and postponements," she said.
"A celebrant in Melbourne Mel Jacobs had the idea when there could only be five people at a wedding.
"Weddings are still considered an essential service but big weddings aren't.
"She thought how could we make this appealing to couples and dreamed up this idea based on what happens in Las Vegas.
"While they mostly use chapels there, we will meet people anywhere and stand beside their car being socially distant and marry them."
Ms McCarthy said while wedding restrictions were still in place, people still needed to get married and there were lots of reasons why people needed to marry.
She said they had celebrants in every state in Australia including a celebrant based in Perth and herself in Busselton.
"They are just very quick and affordable weddings, I can meet people at places and marry them in their car," she said.
"We are just keeping them small with 10 people or less and as quick elopments."
Couples can choose to wed at iconic locations and beaches - from Busselton to Eagle Bay, providing a stunning back drop for the local roll out.
A number of locations are listed on the website, or people can choose any parking spot they feel would suit their own drive up experience.
"I will travel to Busselton, Dunsborough, Yallingup, Gracetown, Capel, inland 30 minutes, Cowaramup, Gracetown and Margaret River," Ms McCarthy said.
"We have Mr Mustang Hire on board and we are getting a couple of local photographers as well.
"People can organise a drive-thru wedding through the website and ask for the South West rep to marry them in their driveway or car.
"It is a little bit quirky and because it is a novelty and so Vegas I think people will just love it."
