After studying Medieval History for the term year 5/6 students at Adam Road Primary school engaged in a celebration of learning with a Medieval Festival on July 1, 2020.
The day started with tournaments in Jousting and Sack Duelling.
This was followed by folk dancing and a wonderful exhibition of colour and movement around the Traditional Maypole.
The feasting was announced and lords and ladies banqueted on pig from the spit, fresh bread, mandarins and tankards of apple juice.
There was hilarity and laughter as students ate with their hands, tearing bread and meat as would have been done in Medieval times and all under the watchful eye of the pig's head.
The feast was followed by a choral performance from Room 21 of "The Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carroll. A stirring rendition that wooed the crowd.
The afternoon was spent rotating in small groups through a selection of medieval games such as: Tic TacToe, knucklebones, cats cradle, quoits, skittles, Bocce and horseshoe toss.
The day concluded with a tug 'o' war between the Saxons and the Normans before the peasants, lords and ladies returned to their villages and castles.
A wonderful day had by all.
