Rescue chopper called out to reported shark attack

UPDATE 4pm: The RAC helicopter has taken a man to Bunbury Regional Hospital where it was expected to arrive at 3.55pm.

3PM: The RAC Rescue helicopter has been called to an incident at The Farm surf break, near Bunker Bay, where it is understood a surfer has been injured in a shark attack.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development received a report of a possible shark bite at around 2.15pm on Friday.

The department reported a man, believed to be in his 20s, was bitten by a 4 metre white shark and sustained injuries to his leg.

The man will be transported to Royal Perth Hospital.

Beachgoers are urged to take additional precautions in the area and to follow any local beach closure notices.
