SWNFL 2020, preliminary final: Bunbury secures 56-47 win over Eaton

Bunbury moved through to the 2020 South West Netball Football League - Open grand final with a strong performance against Eaton at the weekend.

Enjoying a home court advantage in Sunday's preliminary final, the Boomers moved out to a two-goal lead midway through the first quarter.

Thanks to Goalkeeper Sophie Price and Goal Defence Hailey Burrows, the Bulldogs later re-gained momentum and forced several turnovers.

A late surge from Boomers' Goal Shooter Jessica Knight saw the home side secure a three-goal lead at the first change.

Feeling the pressure, both teams produced a litany of unforced errors and missed goal attempts in the second quarter.

Trailing by three at half time, Goal Shooter Shantelle Tassone and Goal Attack Cassady Anderson rallied to help Bunbury close the gap.

With the scores level (39-39) at three-quarter time, both sides were ready for a spirited showdown in the final term.

The Bulldogs notched up an impressive 17 goals to eight in the fourth quarter, and went on to claim a hard-fought 56-47 away win.

Returning to the Eaton Recreation Centre, the reigning premiers will face off against Busselton in this Saturday's decider.

The ECU Souwest Jets' Open side faced stiff competition against the Southside Demons in round 13 of the Gold Industry Group WA Netball League season.

Trailing by four at the first change, the Demons came back to shoot 16 goals in the second quarter and another 18 in the third.

The Demons celebrated a hard-fought 57-52 win after putting up 12 goals to 11 in the final term.

Southside's Meg Gallager posted a whopping 50 goals from 59 attempts, while Giselle Taylor top-scored for the Jets with 35.

The Jets' Under-20s were applauded for their outstanding efforts against the Demons on Friday evening.

Behind by three at quarter time, the Demons impressed with a 13-goal haul in the second term.

The team scored another 31 goals to 21 in the second half, before celebrating a resounding 55-43 victory.

Both Jets' sides will clash with the Western Roar in the final round of the season, this Friday night.
