The Shire of Harvey is set to benefit significantly from the 2020/2021 round of State Black Spot funding.
Announced by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti earlier this week, the funding will cover 48 regional roads and 44 metropolitan roads.
The government is now expected to allocate:
- $333,000 to upgrade Johnston Road. Works to improve safety will include sealing shoulders, removing roadside hazards, installing signs, and delineation;
- $140,000 to upgrade Harvey-Quindanning Road. Works to improve safety will include reinstating shoulders, removing roadside hazards from clear zone, and installing signs, and delineation.
Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke said the Black Spot program was essential to creating safer roads across the South-West and the state.
"Local motorists who regularly commute through these country roads have raised safety concerns with my office, so I'm pleased this funding will address those concerns," she said.
"Making improvements to roads and intersections that we know to have crash history such as Paterson Road and Harvey-Quindanning Road is so important to ensuring road users in our area get home safely to their families each day."
Ms Saffioti said the program had so far delivered more than half a billion dollars in community benefits since its inception in 2000.
"Again, the State Government has reinforced its commitment to improving road safety by allocating $21 million to this year's program," she said.
"The program is delivered in partnership with local government, which contributes another $5 million each year.
"There is no doubt the program is effectively addressing road safety at a grass roots level."
