The Choose Respect Champion program was unfortunately not immune to the impacts of Covid-19 in 2020.
Organisers are now gearing up to have the program up and running again to recognise young people in the community who are treating others with care and consideration.
The Choose Respect Champion program is open for nominations of any school aged person who always shows kindness and respect to people in the community.
Nominations are considered every month with a champion awarded on a monthly basis.
The monthly champion will receive a $50 voucher from sponsor Bunbury Forum Shopping Centre, a lapel pin and will join the Choose Respect Champion Team.
Choose Respect Bunbury coordinator Leanne Maher said promoting respect and kindness in the community was important as it provided hope for positive future. Our youth are our future, and we have so many fantastic caring young people who are showing the way of what a respectful culture can look like," she said.
In 2019 there were nine champions who included 13 year-old Jorja who was wonderful and supportive to her brother with special needs, seven year-old James who regularly takes it upon himself to pick up rubbish in the school ground and 10 year-old Mavryk who collected blankets for people sleeping rough.
