The Informer: NSW communities band together after floods

Whether it be floods or fire, communities band together to support those hit hardest by extreme weather events.

And that's exactly what has happened this week.

Hundreds of farmers are struggling after intense rain and flooding swept through parts of Queensland, NSW and Victoria, significantly impacting fodder supplies and livestock in many areas.

Cue Need for Feed.

The organisation started with the generosity of one man in 2006 and has been providing disaster relief to Australian farmers ever since.

Through the generosity of donors, Need for Feed has been able to send truckloads of fodder to farmers hit hard by flooding across the Macleay.

A delivery that will no doubt be very appreciated by farmers in the area.

There's also been a fierce display of community spirit in Port Macquarie with a local group of volunteers rescuing more than 300 neighbours and pets.

Cups of tea and barbecues greeted evacuees who were brought back to a home on the canals.

Family business Rampage Marine and Fabrication coordinated the rescue effort, which also gave out more than 2000 litres of fuel, masses of essential food items and delivered medical supplies.

These communities have refused to succumb to hard luck, instead showing their true grit as they help neighbours and generously share their supplies.
