Local DJs, musicians and party people Lee Cummings and Rob Southgate have joined forces to establish a brand new events company, Shaka Events, aimed at creating boutique style dance events to the Margaret River region.
Well known around the region for their various incarnations and bands, including Southgate as DJ Private Pickle, and Cummings ably manning the drums for the likes of Ash Grunwald, Band of Frequencies and Beeva Feeva, the duo's official launch party will land at Colonial Brewing Co this weekend.
We're bringing boutique dance events - stylish but rocking - to awesome venues around the Margs region.
- Lee Cummings, Shaka Events co-founder
"There's obviously been such a radical influx of visitors here over the last few summers - city, interstate and international travellers - the night life has been going next level, the vibes are awesome and Rob and I have been riding the storm, putting on heaps of shows where the energy has been beautiful and astounding," Cummings told the Mail this week.
"We both feel like the dance music culture is going to keep growing here. The beauty of this place, the community, the positive energy that abounds makes it seem inevitable.
"We're combining our decades of global dance music and cultural experiences to bring boutique dance events - stylish but rocking - to awesome venues around the Margs region."
Cummings said Shaka Events would look to establish a presence in the region to ensure events retained a genuine South West feel.
"We are aware of big Perth and East Coast production companies that are keen to move to the area, we would love to get in first and try to build things from the ground up with a local based foundation.
"Keep it Margs authentic!"
'Bunny's Bonanza' kicks off at Colonial Brewing Co on Easter Sunday April 4 from 6.00pm, featuring sets from Swami Adima, JBos, Bunnyjuice, Garlic Party and more.
