Dardanup Shire asks for community input on Peninsula Lakes

Shade sails, new seating and kickaround goals are just a handful of new additions for 2021, to the already established, pirate-themed playground at the park.

Announced by the Shire of Dardanup in March, the stage two improvements were presented in a master plan after consultation with both the community and Eaton's new Advisory Group took place.

Shire President Michael Bennett told the Mail the construction of the playground in 2019, which signifies stage one of the improvements, had been well received by the community.

"We are always mindful of our community when we make changes because we want them to take the park and make it theirs. If the stage two improvements aren't well received then it'll be back to the drawing board," Cr Bennett said.

The shire has allocated $61,200 from the 2020/21 budget towards the proposed improvements, which also includes a birds nest style swing and landscaping upgrades in select locations around the lakes perimeter.

"We're putting the stage two developments out to the community for consultation so people can have an input. If there's something they'd rather have in the park than what's been planned then we will address it."

Cr Bennett added that since the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic, the shire had seen the need to have more play areas closer to residents homes to ensure comfort within their own environments.

"We believe these improvements will make Peninsula Lakes a more aesthetic park for everyone who drives by. We want people to say there's a nice park, let's go there," Cr Bennett said.

Suitable to funding and further input from the community, the proposed stage three developments for Peninsula Lakes park will include new bollards around the park's perimeter, street parking and accessible picnic tables.

Community input for stage two of the Peninsula Lakes park improvements is welcomed via the Shire of Dardanup's website and will close on Wednesday, April 14.
