A BABY boom at the Capel Cricket Club has resulted in a need for more players when the season resumes in October.
With four babies being born to players in 2021 and two more on the way, the Club is calling out for players as those existing take on additional responsibilities as parents.
Capel Cricket Club President Nathan Scott said the Club already had a huge family friendly nature which he hoped would attract new players who had children.
"In addition to being a fun and active sport, cricket is a great opportunity for families to be together. Partners and wives can bring their kids down to the games in Capel so they can run around and play on the playground," Mr Scott said.
In the last two years, the Capel Cricket Club has dropped from two men's teams to one Third Grade senior men's team, with 30 players on the books.
As Club President for ten years, Mr Scott said it had always been important for Bunbury residents to know that having young children was not a deterrent from taking part in the sport.
"We all bring our kids to the games as well as our social gatherings. We're hoping that this closeness with families will generate more interest for players to join."
Three year member Murray Tennent-Brown is expecting his second child in November and said although it would be a juggling act to take on a new baby and playing in the Club, he would gladly persevere.
"A lot of us are in the same boat now with family commitments, but obviously we want to keep being involved with the Club. It helps that cricket is very family friendly plus a nice environment to be in. It's great to have kids at the games running around on the sidelines, with us running around trying to keep them off the field," Mr Tennent-Brown said.
"Cricket is set apart from any other sport such as AFL because it's a longer form game with the chance to chat to the players from the opposition during and after the game, so good friendships are formed."
