The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) has urged those from Perth Metropolitan and the South West to prepare for severe thunderstorms arriving in the early hours of Saturday, May 29.
Listed locations which may be affected include Bunbury, Mandurah, Perth, Harvey, Rottnest Island and Scarborough.
On May 28, the Bureau of Meteorology advised that a cold front would move across the South West Land Division during Friday night and Saturday bringing a period of heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds for the warning area.
The Bureau also added that showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected to increase for a period on Saturday morning with higher tides and heavy rainfall which may lead to flash flooding.
A representative from the department said the weather, though not uncommon for the time of year, could "damage homes and make travel dangerous".
DFES has issued the following list of ways in which to prepare for the looming weather:
- Store or weigh down loose objects around your home like outdoor furniture that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds, causing damage or injury
- Ensure your emergency kit is complete including a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit
- Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area
- Move vehicles under cover
- Boat owners should securely moor their boats
- Campers should find safe shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and streams
- Unplug electrical appliances and avoid using landline telephone if there is lightning.
"If you are away from home contact family or friends to prepare your property," the representative added.
At this stage, roads have not been closed.
