A community partnership has shown how gardening can improve the social and wellbeing of women.
Grounded Women Gardening is a joint project between South West Women's Health and Information Centre, Soroptimist International Bunbury and Titch Haven.
For a school term, about ten different women participating in working on a garden plot, self-development activities such as art, meditation, cooking and guest speaker presentations, plus chatting over cups of tea and healthy treats.
The program has only been running since February but Soroptomist Bunbury gardening facilitator Rebecca Tichbon said they had received great feedback and more funding to continue.
"It has been wonderful to see the success of the project so far," she said.
"We have received a lot of positive feedback from the participants and I have been in awe watching the self-development of the women attending each week.
"The participants have shown as much growth as the amazing vegetables we have been harvesting from our garden.
"To be awarded the new grant confirms the value of the project to the Bunbury community, and I am very pleased and relieved that Grounded Women Gardening will be able to continue."
