In 2017, Nannup residents raised the alarm that old growth forest in Barrabup had been cleared for logging. An assessment found within the 530-hectare coupe, 43 hectares contained jarrah old-growth forest and 1.2 hectares of old-growth forest had been impacted by roadworks.

Western Australians have the opportunity to provide their views on the value and use of the state's South-West native forests by participating in a survey.
