Three residents from the South West of WA will face some tough challenges ahead as they take on the latest season of Survivor Australia.
Twenty four contestants were announced this week ahead of the season premiere on Saturday which will see two teams - Brains, and Brawn - compete in the sixth season of the reality game show.
I think people will assume or stereotype me as being a bit of a ditzy blonde surfer chick who doesn't completely know what's going on.
- Flick Palmateer
Cowaramup's Felicity 'Flick' Palmateer, Margaret River-based Emmett Pugh and Busselton's Kerryn 'Kez' McGee have all been named in this year's Brawn team.
Contestants are referred to as 'castaways' as they compete in challenges to earn rewards while foraging for food and water and building fire and shelter for themselves and their teammates.
Contestants are progressively eliminated from the game as they are voted off the island by their fellow castaways, with the final remaining contestant receiving a grand prize of $500,000.
After previous seasons were filmed in Fiji, the new season was filmed in Cloncurry, Queensland to avoid COVID-19 travel restrictions.
Professional surfer Palmateer is no stranger to television screens thanks to her current second place ranking in the world for Big Wave Surfing.
The 28 year old holds the record for the biggest wave surfed by an Australian woman and is also an accomplished artist.
"My strength will be my ability to adapt and make the right decisions under pressure," she said.
"I also see my vulnerability as a strength. I believe to really connect with people and form strong relationships it requires you to give a little to get a little."
Having travelled the world on tour since the age of 16, Palmateer said she had learned to be sociable and resilient.
"I think people will assume or stereotype me as being a bit of a ditzy blonde surfer chick who doesn't completely know what's going on.
"I'm going to use this to my advantage and people won't see me coming."
Fellow 'Brawn' team member Emmett Pugh said he planned to fly under the radar, until it was "time to release the plant-based Superman".
"My [strength will be] my strong mindset to overcome pain, suffering and any challenge that stands in the way of achieving my goal of becoming Sole Survivor."
The 31 year old health coach said he was "obsessed" with pushing his body to the limit.
At 19 he was named 'Perth's Hottest Guy' which catapulted him to the catwalks of New York City. He now models part time and lives in Margaret river with fiance Johana and dog, Marley.
Busselton bodybuilder Kerryn McGee may be just 25 years old but she said she will be nothing but ruthless in the Aussie outback.
"I am the challenge beast," she said.
"My smile will also melt your heart."
McGee has been training for bodybuilding competitions for 5 years and said she had been preparing for Australian Survivor without even knowing it.
She said she was confident that she would dominate physical challenges, but also planned to be a "smiling assassin".
"I want my Tribe to think they can trust me," she said.
"Telling me all the gossip, almost like my guardsman protecting the queen."
Survivor Australia 2021 premieres on July 18 at 7:30pm on Network 10 and 10 play.
