THE Australind and Harvey libraries have received funding that will see new laptops and learning opportunities for the community.
Supplied from the National Backyard Cricket fundraising program, 54 country libraries around Australia received a share of over $125,000.
Australind Library will use the $1,200 grant to purchase new laptops for their Coding Club, whilst the $500 grant received by Harvey Library will be used to run a series of learning opportunities for the community including gardening, arts and crafts, word processing and photography.
Shire of Harvey President Paul Gillett said the Shire's libraries offered a range of services to the community, including programs and events for children and parents, computer and digital support, different learning opportunities and classes.
"This funding will support our libraries to continue offering programs and activities for the entire community," Cr Gillett said.
The National Background Cricket campaign was run by The Learning for a Better World Trust charity and saw over 320 donors raise money that was matched by Harvey Norman.
Chair of the Learning for a Better World Trust David Vaux said the 2021 National Backyard Cricket day was an opportunity for families and communities across Australia to come together after a challenging 12 months.
"We are so thrilled we can support local libraries as we know they have a powerful impact on learning and life outcomes," Mr Vaux said.
