Relegation-threatened Cagliari have fired coach Walter Mazzarri with three crucial matches remaining in Serie A for the Sardinian club.
The move was confirmed in a brief statement on Cagliari's website on Monday.
Veteran Mazzarri, Cagliari's 17th coach in the last decade, was hired in September three rounds into the season.
In 17th place, Cagliari have lost seven of their last eight matches and hover three points above the relegation zone.
A replacement was not immediately announced, although Alessandro Agostini, the club's youth team coach, was expected to take over to the end of the season.
It is the 11th coaching change in the 20-team Serie A this season.
For the final three games, Cagliari visit two teams that are also battling relegation -- Salernitana and Venezia -- and host title-chasing Inter Milan.
Salernitana remain two points behind after being pegged back to a 1-1 draw at Atalanta.
Atalanta midfielder Mario Pasalic scored in the 88th minute with a confident, angled shot inside the far post.
Ederson had volleyed in from close range midway through the first half for in-form Salernitana, which had won three straight.
Atalanta remained eighth but moved level on points with seventh-placed Fiorentina, with only the top seven likely to qualify for Europe.
