Controversial veteran radio broadcaster Howard Sattler says he is "flabbergasted" after being sacked by 6PR on Friday afternoon.
Radio 6PR general manager Martin Boylen made the announcement on air about 2.30pm (WST).
The presenter was initially suspended from his 6PR Drive program after a bizarre interview with the Prime Minister in which he asked if her partner Tim Mathieson was gay.
6PR management has since apologised to Julia Gillard and says the questions posed by the host were "disrespectful and irrelevant".
"During an interview on the Drive program yesterday presenter Howard Sattler pursued a line of questioning with Prime Minister Julia Gillard that was disrespectful to the office and person of the Prime Minister and was entirely inappropriate," Mr Boylen said.
"Radio 6PR apologises unreservedly to Ms Gillard and Mr Mathieson for allowing these matters to be raised on the Drive program.
"In the wake of yesterdays interview Radio 6PR has suspended Mr Sattler from broadcasting pending the review of the matter today.
"The station has now determined to terminate Mr Sattler's engagement, effective immediately."
Sattler said his many years of service to the station were being overlooked.
"I've given 28 years of my life to this station," Sattler said.
"I don't want a medal or anything for it but I've done a lot of good for a lot of people.
"I'd like to think I could have done more good."
According to Channel Ten reporter Alice Pooley, Sattler hoped to "help" the PM by asking if her partner was gay.
